Find the flashcard app that fits how you study
An honest look at Quizlet, Anki and FlashOne. FlashOne is our app, so we say where the others do better.
Students in memory-heavy courses, like nursing and pharmacology, who already use Quizlet or Anki and want something that fits better.
We make FlashOne
This page compares apps we do not make with one we do. We tried to be fair. Where another app is the better pick, we say so.
Prices and plans change. Where we give a price, we say where we checked it and when.
Why people look for a Quizlet alternative
Most people are not unhappy with flashcards. They are unhappy with how much time goes into making them, or with study sets written by someone else for a different class.
So the right app depends on one thing: where do your flashcards come from?
Quizlet, Anki and FlashOne, side by side
Quizlet
Best when someone has already made a good set for your exact class. It has a very large library of shared study sets, and a free plan. The free plan has usage limits, and paid plans remove ads and raise those limits.Pick Quizlet if a shared set for your course already exists. Current plans and prices: quizlet.com/upgrade.
Anki
Best if you want full control and do not mind setup. Anki is free on computers and on Android (AnkiDroid). The iPhone app, AnkiMobile, costs $24.99 once. It has a long history, a strong spaced repetition system and many add-ons.Pick Anki if you like to tune every setting. Sources: apps.ankiweb.net and the App Store listing for AnkiMobile, both checked October 12, 2026.
FlashOne (ours)
Built for making flashcards from your own course. You can transcribe a lecture in the app, import your study material, turn each lecture into a master note, and turn notes into flashcards with images. You can listen to your notes and flashcards as audio. Cards you already know are hidden, and you keep practising until the deck is empty.Pick FlashOne if your problem is the hours spent making cards from your own lectures and slides.
Where FlashOne is not the best pick
If a classmate already shared a great Quizlet set for your exam, use it. Making your own cards in any app will not beat a good set that is already done.
If you want a free app on your computer with deep settings and add-ons, Anki is hard to beat.
FlashOne is newer. It has a much smaller shared library than Quizlet and fewer add-ons than Anki.
From lecture to flashcards
Capture the lecture
Transcribe it in the app, or bring in your slides, readings and notes.
Get one master note
Each lecture becomes a master note. Your master notes become one exam review.
Study the flashcards
Turn anything into flashcards, add images, and listen on a walk. Known cards drop out until the deck is done.
Plan the week
A built-in calendar holds your classes and your study plan.
